Swede deal - Arnesson signs B's contract

A lot has been said about the great swedish youth system in recent years and the Bruins franchise got their first taste of it at last year's draft when they aquired three guys from Sverige in defenseman Linus Arnesson and forwards Peter Cehlarik and Anton Blidh.

Sweden has arguably been the best European destination for future NHL players to progress and continues to be since last years rebranding of their top tier league, the SHL.
Last years B's draft pick Linus Arnesson was beeing part of history when his team Djurgårdens IF gained promotion to the SHL, finishing 2nd in the 40th and final Kvalserien.

Since 1975, the Kvalserien has been a 10 game battle between the worst two teams from the Eliteserien (now SHL), the top three of HockeyAllvenskan and the Allvenskan playoff round winner. Home and Away games against each opponent, decided which 2 teams will play in next year's Top league.

Arnesson, who compares his style of play to Blackhawks d-man Niklas Hjalmarsson, spent a full 44 game season at Djurgårdens, the team he's been playing for since the age of 14.
He finished his first pro season (split time between men and youth team before the draft) with a goal and 5 assists in the Allvenskan.

The defensive defenseman out of Stockholm also won a silver-medal at the World Juniors when the Swedes were beaten on their home ice in a thrilling 3-2 OT loss against their northern rivals Finland.
Arnesson finished the tournament with two assist on the 2nd d-line alongside 7th round Caps draft pick Christian Djoos.

As expected after last year's draft, he makes the jump over to North America to play for the Providence Bruins in the 2014-15 AHL season. It's a big step for the young Swede as he has to fight for his spot against older and more experienced guys like Joe Morrow, David Warsofsky or Zach Trotman.

Settling down in Rhode Island might be easier with fellow countrymen Alex Fallström and Niklas Svedberg (if they resign him) on the team.
Linus will be part of the Bruins development camp starting in July, where he's likely to face another Swede in last years 6th round draft pick Anton Blidh.

With Eriksson and Söderberg on the B's roster all I can say is: Watch out Boston the Swedes are coming !
