Tired and unlucky in the end - Bruins lose

First back-to-back game of the season and the Bruins lose 2-1 at Detroit. While the offense struggled to score, Tuukka Rask turned up with his A game, denying a blowout by the Wings.

It took the the Bruins 12:01 to get their first shot on goal which resulted in a goal by Patrice Bergeron. Wings had fired 7 on Rask before Jonathan Ericson made a terrible pass in his own zone, giving the puck to Bergeron who had all the time in the world to pick the corner on Jimmy Howard.

A 1-0 lead after the first period ment nothing as Bergeron had to leave the ice after a hit by Kronwall to start the 2nd period. Bruins were awarded a PP after a slashing call against Tatar, Chara beat Howard five-hole but unfortunately hit the post aswell.

An offensive giveaway by Carl Söderberg lead to the Wings game-tying goal. DeKeyser with a bomb from the blue-line and Abdelkader with the deflection infront of a screened Rask.
Bergeron returned to the game midway through the period, "earning" a slashing call which resulted in a Wings PP.

The Bruins defense was lost again as Darren Helm found Gustav Nyquist cross-crease to make it a 2-1 Wings lead in the 2nd. Tuukka Rask was the only reason the game was heading into the last period with a one goal difference.

Wings sat back and relaxed against tired Bruins, who still managed to outshot them 8 to 4 in the 3rd. Brad Marchand with the biggest chance to tie it, off the post with only 2 minutes left. Howard managed to shut the door for the rest of the game, earning his first win of the season.

Noticeable facts:

- Bruins ended the game with a Corsi (all shots combined) of 29, which was the 2nd worst in the last 5 years. Lowest game total was 28 in the last game of the regular season vs New Jersey last season. (@Bruins_stats)

- Milan Lucic is lost without David Krejci and a scoring RW. One would think that a guy who earns 6 million dollar a year should be able to produce on his own, but apparently thats not the fact with Lucic. Team-leading 2 giveaways and no shot on the goal for our 1st line left winger.

- Craig Cunningham one of the better Bruins players on the ice, finishing the game with the best faceoff percentage (won 5 out of 8 = 62.50 %).

- Ryan Spooner and Matt Fraser, not sure if it's Lucic holding them down to produce or the fact that Spooner shouldn't be a Center on this team (lost 10 of his 13 faceoffs last night). Especially Spooner needs to show up in the next games, before Julien and management decide to give him more time in Providence.

- Dougie Hamilton, after an awfull night against Philly only rewarded with 19:47 of ice time (2nd worst amongst d-men). Torey Krug with teamleading 22:39 (more than 5 on the powerplay)

- Bobby Robins basically did nothing. 0 shots on goal, 0 hits, 0 blocks, 0 takeaways, on the bright side he managed to stay out of the penalty box aswell. Saw more icetime than he did against Philly on opening night.

- Brad Marchand continues to show improved defensive play, nice play to denie Zetterberg on the breakaway. Finished +1 with 2nd best 4 shots on goal, including one of the pipe with 2 minutes left.
